Heat Pump Installer Training - May 13 - 17

This 40-hour course meets Efficiency Maine Heat Pump Installer Training requirements needed to qualify for rebates, financing, and sales leads. Using both classroom and hands-on lab instruction, it covers how to professionally install heat pump indoor units, outdoor units, and line sets. Students will get hands-on experience installing these state-of-the-art HVAC systems that are revolutionizing heating and cooling. *New content – covers Low GWP-A2L flammable refrigerant training.
Students successfully completing this course and KVCC’s separately offered EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handling Course will qualify to work for the hundreds of Maine contractors installing tens of thousands of heat pumps each year. KVCC is an Efficiency Maine Registered Trainer for Heat Pump Installer Training. Students will need to come to class prepared with tools from the tool list linked here: Heat Pump Tool List

Grant Funding
50% of course cost, up to $1200 available for eligible frontline workers through the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine’s Workforce. BLS CPR for Healthcare Providers - May 15

This course is for students entering any of the several healthcare professions (EMT, Nursing, CNA, Residential Care, etc.). The course covers one and two person adult CPR, child and infant CPR, obstructed airway maneuvers for the conscious and unconscious adult, child and infant, barrier devices and disease transmission and prevention, introduction to the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), legal and ethical considerations, and special resuscitation situations. Students who have been certified in the past, and have let their certification lapse by more than 30 days will need to take this full class.
EPA 608 Refrigerant Certificate - May 18

The course includes reading/preparation material, a live review session, and cost of the exam. The EPA 608 certification exam prepares technicians for the following four certifications: Type I: Repair of small appliances, Type II: High pressure refrigerants (i.e. Mini Split Heat Pumps), and Type III: Low pressure appliances (chillers), or Universal. It is not intended to by formal refrigeration training. Technicians who take this course should be familiar with the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle and common service equipment and procedures.

Training options:
Welding I will introduce students to the basics of welding. This foundation course will focus on safety and principles of welding. Students will use the SMAW welding process (stick welding) and will learn to make minor repairs and start your own projects.
Welding II is more advanced and will build on the SMAW welding process and also learn FCAW and cutting with Oxy-Acetylene torches. Successful students will be ready to take one AWS Certification Test.
